Youtube block disappearing when i change the youtube clip

I had five separate blocks with five youtube clips showing on a page. When i click on the youtube block and click enter i get a window allowing me to paste in a new youtube video url to replace the old one. When i then click save and publish etc the block has disappeared and I can't see how to get it back. I have not changed any permissions to make it not visible or anything. Has anyone had this problem and know the solution - hopefully its just a click on a setting as i am not a developer.
thank you - attached screenshots show the sequence and it relates to this page -http://www.flyfishinginnewzealand.com/index.php/videos/...

Hi Roy,

Have you tried clearing your site cache?

Go to Dashboard > Sitewide Settings > Speed Settings and click the Clear Cache button. Let me know if that helps.

Hi Roy,
I checked this out on my own install, it looks like if you have a malformed URL, the block does disappear. It's very possible to do so if you have a URL like,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ch-R1aIM-C0&feature=related...

and then when you paste in the new URL, it looks like it is filling up the whole box, but it is actually in there with the other URL and it isn't resolving to anything. So try to see if it still has the problem when you completely delete the old URL before pasting in the new one.

Hi Roy,
That's odd. Have you been publishing those edits? Or maybe you have an older version of the page as the 'live' version?

Generally, any edit you make goes live once you publish the changes. To see what version is actually up, try clicking the "Versions" on your edit bar. You probably want the one all the way up at the top. The page name for each version is a link to see what it looks like.

thanks Greg - yes I click publish each time and I also checked the versions as you suggested and it said it was the latest - i just retried and you can see here where the block is not showing yet it shows as diabled when in editor - is there maybe some setting on it that is saying not public?

If you have advanced permissions turned on that is possible, but you would have to actually be setting the permissions differently. I'm not sure if you can set videos on youtube to be private or something but that would probably result in this not showing. What exactly is the URL you are using on the video that is not showing up?

Also, one way to see if this is a version problem would be to change some of your text in one of the content blocks and see if that changes but the youtube video is still no good.

oh, and the "content not displayed" message is because the page is in edit mode and flash stuff doesn't get loaded while in edit mode.

thanks Greg this is sorted now so don't waste any more time on it - thanks for helping with it...

thanks Greg - i just added another block of normal content and moved it below the youtube block that shows in editor but not when live - you can see the content block worked here - it says test etc -http://www.flyfishinginnewzealand.com/index.php/videos/...

the youtube URL i am trying to add in is this one -http://www.youtube.com/user/NZFlyfishing#p/u/4/8tpLibs5XWE...

thanks heaps

Hmm, I think that particular URL won't work. Try this one instead:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8tpLibs5XWE...

YouTube lets you view videos in a couple of different ways-- the link you were using lets a web browser view the video from inside the user's profile page. The link I pasted above is the direct path to the video, outside of the user's profile page. That's the kind of link the YouTube block needs to function...otherwise it won't be able to find the video.

To get the a working direct link from the URL you posted:

1. Click the video title: "New Zealand fly fishing..." This takes you you to the video page.

2. Click the Share button. A shortened URL appears (while this is great for Twitter, etc, it won't work for our needs).

3. Click the "Show Options" link next to the shortened URL.

4. Check the "Long Link" option. The shortened URL changes to a full-length, direct link.

5. Copy the text under "Link to this video" and paste it in your concrete5 block.

I've attached a pair of screenshots to help. YouTube used to make it easier to find the direct URL, but they keep tweaking and refining their video options-- It's a little hard to keep up with all the changes they've made.

Try this out and let me know how it works!
