Mobile view of background image not scaling down to Ipads

I've developed a website for a client with a bit of a unique layout:http://www.themargate.com/
The main content area is hidden on the right side of the homepage and can be extended to out by clicking on the arrow icon.
I am using the background gallery plugin on the home page and weddings page. On desktop/laptop it looks great. But when I scale down to a tablet, specifically an iPad, the background image gets stretched out larger than the width of the tablet.
I've set a css rule for the body with overflow-x: hidden, which works well on desktop but not on a tablet view.
Any suggestions for making the background more mobile friendly would be greatly appreciated.
