User editing interface WOW

enlil
I picked up Best Suite out of pure curiosity and it has become a MAJOR part of more than one of my sites. Definately the ultimate "build a section of a site" package.

Use it for anything... Blogs, videos, recipes, contacts, you name it. You can create a Blog system in minutes using this package. Installation and set up is pretty strait forward, just follow the instructions in the documentation! You will need to have a good idea how C5's permissions work, and be comfortable setting up attributes and rendering them on your pages appropriately (I use Magic Data for much of this). There are some permissions walk through's available, I personally have found a different way of doing it and will share that method with Herent as soon as possible!

Once you're ready to go with all of the above, creating and editing pages is a breeze for your end users. They simply navigate to the dashboard and select the "blog" section per say, and in the dialogue they are able to add / edit / delete their posts EASILY, while leaving you as the designer/developer complete control over the design and layout of the attributes on the pages. No more worrying about your clients editing pages and accidentally removing things or breaking pages by adding scripts etc, without your knowledge.

Optionally, I've also created a package that will work hand in hand with Best Suite, in those cases where users see the edit button and can edit those pages, but you want them to edit with Best Suite and not through the core page edit functionality. It's currently in PRB. Take a peek at it soon, Enlil Navigation Control, it's free ;)

Thanks for the review! I'm glad you like it!

What was the site you used it on? I'm sure people would like to check it out. What were they managing with it?

One thing on the permissions - if you're using simple permissions or only admins/a few users, then you don't need to do much of anything. If you're going to go through and lock down some people to only some sections of the dashboard, then it can get pretty tricky.

Awesome Add-on with an Odd Name

I used this package on six different customized sections of a recent site (events, news, press releases, media, job listings, and personnel). Now the site editors have one interface to create and edit all of these custom page types (with a bunch of custom fields), and can easily access them all from anywhere through the Dashboard drop-down (using c5's star/favorite system). The chances of them messing things up just went waaaaaay down.

This is basically the standard Composer feature turned up to 11 and then some. Page Search is integrated and the list columns are editable. It all feels very much like a part of the core system. There were a few little bugs that the developer fixed immediately.

If you're comfortable with creating custom page types and attributes then you definitely want to check out this package to help manage the page creation and content editing. Combine it with the Sky Blue Sofa's Page List Plus for unstoppable awesomeness.

Bottom line: I haven't been this excited about an add-on since Designer Content came out.

This add-on makes it extremely easy to use the composer to manage your site content. I actually used this add-on to help my client manage an equipment inventory. With this add-on I don't have to explain to them what the composer is and that each piece of equipment is really just a page, etc. I just tell them to go to the "Equipment Inventory" section of the dashboard and click "Manage Equipment." Super easy!

The developer is also very responsive. I asked him about a new feature in the #concrete5 IRC channel and in 10 minutes he had it implemented and the update posted!

If you are going to be managing a blog, news/updates, or even an equipment inventory, I can't recommend this add-on enough.
