Feature request: checkbox

Hi,
I understand the need for the "boolean" field which is more flexible. I'm putting forward a request for a simple checkbox as well. The reason being is that I'm planning an interface with over a dozen fields, and using a "select" (which the boolean field does) requires twice as many clicks - one to pull down the select field and another to choose the value. If we can add a "checkbox" then it would halve the number of clicks - very handy when there's a lot of data entry to do.
What do you think?

Hi there,

Makes sense in a while as in it requires less clicks. But not sure what the rest of the use would be. Since you don't really have a "No" value to click/select, just the checkbox which is the "Yes". So what would be shown in the block itself... Still the yes/no values or... It could be confusing, so it would be like "Checked value", "Checked label" and "Unchecked value" (no "Unchecked label", since there is only 1 checkbox)? Or maybe just make radio buttons, instead of checkboxes, then we can keep the "Yes" and "No" as is for the boolean, and have an option "Radio instead of Select/Dropdown". That's the better solution I guess?

I think 2 different solutions (and 2 new field types) would fix 2 different problems:

1a) Checkboxes with "Checked value" and "Unchecked value". Similar output options as "select" (show value OR show "label" if checked).
OR
1b) Make it flexible and support multiple values from multiple selections (based on the existing "select" field interface) - use a large text box for entering values and display ("key :: visible" format). A field option for display delimiter (like a comma) when outputting multiple values.

2) Radio buttons - similar situation as 1b but it only allows 1 selection, instead of multiple and therefore doesn't need to worry about a delimiter.

Does this make sense?

OK, so if the currenct "Select" is somewhat good as is, we can change that dropdown/select into radio buttons (for each choices you've defined)? Then you've got it as flexible as the current "Select", but have instantly clickable radio buttons. Right?

Yes, that would help to make data entry 1-click for data where there's only 1 possible value.

The other case when multiple values need be selected isn't handle though. This would need to be done with checkboxes.

Any chance you'll have time to take a stab at that this week? I'm sure if I set a few hours aside I could work it out but you're the pro at it, and it would be a breeze for you ;-)

Unfortunately this week won't cut it for me. Currently too much other stuff going on, to do this in between.

What you could do, is use the "Select" right now if you'd want radio buttons later, since I can add that option in later to translate a "Select" into "Radio buttons" within that same field type (since it got the same functionalities, just different looks). Once I've added it, you can load in the config and (re)generate the form and copy/paste that back in.

Or if you'd want to take a look and script it in, go ahead. Always nice if people can contribute, although no one has so far so it's a one-man-job haha.

Yeah, I had a look at the code and worked out that with a bit of trial and error I could get it looking the way I wanted. However, I figured for someone who knew the code inside out, like you, it would be a much quicker job.

I'll just hold off on my end until you've had time to add that feature in. :-)
