updated to concrete 5.6 and news area not working

Permalink Browser Info Environment
Ok i have just updated a client site to 5.6 (latest version)and went to add a new news item and i am now unable to click on the easy news tab as before that would normally bring up the editor, i assume this is due to the update.

Oh i also tried to show system pages and select the easy news from there and the following occured.

i was able to add content etc to the editor.

however when you go to the news list and click on the link you get an error message.

So my question is...what is the quick fix? can anyone help?

Hi. You can access it by clicking on easy news help and then removing
the "help" part from address bar ie. (/index.php/dashboard/easy_news).
Anyway, this problem is shared by many packages after the update. I
hope it will be solved quickly.

Let me know if everything works correctly in this way.

Hi Nick
First thank you for the reply i had figured out how to access the editor but when you try to view the output it generates an error message, see below.

Fatal error: Call to a member function getBlockTypeHandle() on a non-object in /home/fibreart/public_html/updates/concrete5.6.0.1/concrete/core/libraries/block_view_template.php on line 41

any ideas?

This issue seems not related to easy news itself:
https://www.concrete5.org/developers/bugs/5-6-0/fatal-error-call-to-...
Actually the upgrade introduced some bugs. I'm reporting some of them
to core, to understand if I should change something in the package.
Hope everything will be solved fast. Maybe you can downgrade to 5.2.x
until then.

Love the addon! but unfortunately same problem here.

The direct url works but the "addons" just seems like it's broken, you can't add it to favorites either.

Since 5.5 it's looking a bit funny, like times new roman titles, blue links, etc.

It would be nice if there was a 5.6 update!

I want to present a new site to a customer with a news block but now I have to say they have to use a different link for news ...

I'll almost surely update this package. I tried to pull a request on
c5 github as many packages have the same link problem. Anyway the new
release will come in about 2-3 weeks.
If you have any advice or you want to improve it, I keep this package
on github @https://github.com/hanicker/Concrete5-EasyNews....

Best regards
Nick

Same problem here.

Hope you still develop this addon because it's a great starting piece for sites which don't need a very robust news system.

Keep up the good work.

Thanks!
I updated a new package here:https://github.com/downloads/hanicker/Concrete5-EasyNews/easy_news.z... that needs some testing.
Hope this solves the problem.

Hi,

I downloaded the new release and replaced all the files.

I am still getting only the title without link and link to the Help page in the admin panel.

Tried also clearing the cache.

Hi, thanks for testing it. Did you update it through the dashboard?

Sorry, forgot to do that.

Now it seems to work fine.

I tried adding a news item, updating a news item and deleting a news item. Everything worked.

Some things to consider:

1. I wasn't able to translate all the strings:
- Manage
- Poista News Entry
- Search
- Delete News Entry
- ** All

2. Button styles would be nice if they would use the Bootstrap style buttons.

3. Links styles could use the normal colours from dashboard. They are now using the default styles from the browser.

4. The span header on top of the Easy News page is missing styles. It's in Times New Roman and in black. It should have a grey gradient background behind it.

You are using a h1 tag with span.

Other pages are using something like this:
<div class="ccm-ui"><div class="ccm-pane"><div class="ccm-pane-header"><h3>Easy News</h3></div></div></div>

Also I asked you some time ago about the possibility to add the Feature News checkbox to the page where you add a new news entry.

You gave the source code for that. I would think that would be a good default feature in the addon. :)
