Can someone write detailed step by step instructions

Can someone write detailed step by step instructions on how to get this addon to work? I appreciate that it's free, and it looks like a cool thing to have -- but I create a page list but it wont show faq entries. I"m sure I'm missing something obvious in here, but I'd like to make this thing work.

Hi watkinssr,

It sounds like you might just need to apply the Example Faq's Custom Template for the Page List block. If you've already got your Page List displaying your FAQ pages, you can just put the page in edit mode, click the block and select "Custom Template" from the menu. Choose "Example Faq Page List" and hit Save. I've attached a screenshot.

Let me know if that helps get it working for you!

ok, following the directions, I add a page list block. There is nothing in the instructions that tells you to set it to beneath this page, but someone else on here mentioned that so I did it.

The directions also say to set it to custom template, but there is no place to do that when creating the page list block. You have to go back and assign it after...this needs to be spelled out as another step.

Next, the instructions say to add faq pages through the dash board. I do this, and when I try to save them I get an error:

The following errors occurred when attempting to process your request:

You must choose a parent page for this FAQ entry.

Yet there is no place to specify a parent page.

Hi watkinssr,

I've written up a basic setup walkthrough here:
http://www.concrete5.org/marketplace/addons/example-faq/documentati...

I agree that it might be hard to guess that you need to apply & enable a Custom Attribute on all your "FAQ section" pages, and that the Custom Template step wasn't all that obvious either! I believe this add-on was initially intended to be a tutorial showing how to extend concrete5, and we offered the package as a way for budding developers to check out working code. (Sort of like the answer key in the back of a math textbook...)

However, it's obvious that a sizable number of non-developers have found this package useful over the last couple of years as well, so thanks for letting us know about the lack of documentation that spoke to those who aren't following along with Andrew's tutorial. In addition to creating the new Documentation page, I've updated the language on the add-on landing page. I hope this helps you get your Example FAQ up and running!
