Doesn't respect fileset order

Permalink Browser Info Environment
I'm using Fancybox 2 version 1.2 on C5 8.3.1. Whatever sort order i'm applying to a fileset, the sort order displayed by the addon always stays the same and seems to be completely random.

I have set no custom sort order by drag & drop on any Fancybox 2 block, so the sort order of the fileset should take effect.

Thank you,
Michael

By the way, i'm asking myself, what sense does it make to have a drag & drop sort option inside the block, if we don't see the filenames or the titles of thumbnails?

I think it would be great if the block itself had a select option for sorting: fileset order, alphabetical order by filename, alphabetical order by titel and order by date. Also, a reset button would be fine, to disable a custom sort order set inside the add-on, in order to bring back the original fileset order. Sorry for going off topic here, but the issue brought up these thoughts.

Update 2018-01-02:
I ran some tests with the same fileset and three other gallery add-ons - they show the correct order of files, as set in the fileset.

Sorry for pushing this, but any information from your side would be highly appreciated, since i have to decide very soon, whether or not i can use that add-on for a client.

Can you reproduce that issue on Concrete5 8.3.1?
If yes, do you think that it could be resolved soon?
If no, what additional information do you need?

Thank you,
Michael

Hi,

No worries, I will be happy to help you achieve anything you'd like. So you would like some additional drag and drop functionality?

Hi!

1) Firstly, i would just like to have the thumbnails sorted as they are in the fileset, just like other gallery add-ons are handling images from filesets. Currently, when selecting a fileset in Fancybox2, images seem to be sorted randomly.

2) Secondly, if 1) is not possible, a feature request would be, to have an option to sort thumbnails on Easy Fancybox 2 (at least alphabetical, ascending/descending).

3) As for the drag&drop functionality: it would be very helpful if we could see the filename or the file title of images (at least on hovering) in order to know which files we are actually dragging.

Thank you,
Michael

Hi,

1) This plugin is designed to pull photos in and allow you to sort the files as on a per block basis. This gives more flexibility in that it allows you to control the order every time you include the addon. Does that make sense?

2) See comment number 1.

3) This is actually a great idea that I'll be happy to add in. Just to be clear, you would want the filename to appear when you add the block to the actual page?

So it's by design that the only way to sort images is by drag and drop?

For example, if i have a fileset with 30 images (named image01.jpg, image02.jpg, image03.jpg ...), i have to manually sort them by drag and drop inside the block in order to have them sorted in their logical order (image01.jpg, image02.jpg, image03.jpg ...).

Couldn't this be done in bulk by a simple switch inside the block...?

If drag & drop really remains the only option to sort images on that block, at least we should be able to see the names or titles of the images we are moving, for example, by balloon tips on mouseover, or by subtitles beneath the thumbnails on the drag & drop panel of the block. That way sorting by drag & drop would be a lot easier.

Hi,

Thanks for clarifying. Yes, by design, the order of your gallery images doesn't rely on the order set in the fileset. The reason is that a lot of clients are requesting the ability to reuse filesets for multiple galleries. In this case, they need the ability to control the order of the photos in multiple places.

However, I'll be happy to provide you with an update to just use the fileset order. This wouldn't take much on my end to pull off. Would that work for you?

Because i'm currently working on a project, i would like to ask you:

When may i expect an updated version?
Will i have to recreate existing blocks?

Hi,

I will have a solution for you by the end of the weekend. Since this is a custom update as opposed to a core update, can you please send me your email address so that I can provide the updated package?

Thanks,

The issue is still not solved.
Thumbnails should reflect the sort order of the fileset by default. At least, they should get sorted ascending, by title or by file name. Currently, thumbnails of a selected fileset are not sorted at all. They are displayed randomly and have to get sorted manually, one by one, which is a huge amount of work if you have large galleries.

Hi,

The latest release of the addon is designed to allow you to setup galleries on a per page basis to allow the most flexibility. There are many ways that this could have been handled but based on user feedback, this was the design requested by 80% of the results.

Please limit these forums to bug fixes or support requests. Not feature demands. I recall working with you previously to working with you to setup your desired goal. I'll circle back around with your most recent ticket and get you a solution!

Best,
