Portrait Photos not displaying correctly

Permalink Browser Info Environment
I have recently downloaded the Fluid Gallery add-on as I was struggling to find an add-on that would work well with retina displays. The retina issue now seems to be sorted which is great, but I'm struggling with including portrait shots in my photo galleries. The portrait photos are being automatically cropped so that only the centre of the image is showing on the thumbnail - when I have a picture of, for example, an animal, it crops off the animal's head which of course doesn't look right. Please can you help me to get this sorted so that my portrait images display a thumbnail of the entire image rather than just the centre? Many thanks.

Hello,

Thanks for purchasing my add-on.

If you set the dimensions to match your images sizes do they not look right?

Are you reducing thumbs sizes?

Are you mixing 'portrait' and 'landscape' together?

Do you have an url I could look at?

Hi Steev,

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. As far as I'm aware I'm not
setting the dimensions of the images - all I've done is to resize my JPEG
images down from 6000x4000 to (1500x1000 landscape & 1000x1500 portrait).

As far as I know I'm not reducing the thumbnail sizes in anyway either.

Yes I'm trying to display both landscape and portrait images on my gallery
together - but as mentioned the portrait images are being displayed in a
landscape shape thumbnail and is only showing the centre part of the image.

Yes my URL is:http://bradgommonphotography.co.uk/portfolio/animals...

I've only tried the fuild gallery on the Pets page at the moment - but you
can see my issue on the third line down where the two dog images aren't
displaying well. Is there a way in which I can display my portrait images
on the main image gallery without them being shown in a landscape shaped
display?

Many thanks,
Brad

Morning Brad,

Sorry, the landscape images for me are not 1500 x 1000, they’re 1000 x 667, whoops!

Try up-sizing the landscape images and making the your thumbnails 1000 x 1000.

Or make the landscape images 1800 x 1200 and set thumbnail sizes to 1200 x 1200 and set pop-up width to 1500.

See images.

Let me know how you get on.

Actually, you could even just reverse the default thumbnail sizes to 600 x 800 once the landscape images are the right size.

Sorry Steev, I'm a bit confused. I tried changing the thumbnail sizes to
600 x 800 which looks good for the portrait images, but of course now the
landscape images don't work in that size of thumbnail. I don't quite
understand your previous message - could you possibly explain again why I
need to change the size of the landscape images (and what size I should
change them to, as you mentioned several different sizes) and how changing
the thumbnail size is going to work for both landscape and portrait
pictures to be mixed with one another?

Apologies - I'm pretty new to Concrete 5 and web design in general so
finding it a bit tricky to get my head around!

Thanks,

Brad

Okay, the set up you’ve got at the moment looks okay. Just try making your landscape images 1500 x 1000 and set the pop-up to 1500 wide.

Formal Refund Request: Please grant me a refund for the license assigned to this support request.

Thanks for your help Steev but I don't think this image gallery is what I need - when I read in the description that it was suitable for landscape and portrait shots I thought this was what I required but I didn't realise that there is no possibility to mix portrait and landscape thumbnails together which is ultimately what I'm looking to do. If you could please issue me with a refund I'd be very grateful.

Hi again Steev,

I've decided I would like to keep the add-on after all - I've played around with a few different layouts and finally have found a method which seems to be working, so will keep going like this. If you could please cancel my request for a refund that would be great.

Thank you very much for your help.

Morning Brad,

Sorry to hear the add-on is not quite what you expected with layout options. However the add-on home page does state that you can use both landscape and portrait images - “Images are automatically cropped, so you can mix landscape and portrait together.”

I think you want a ‘masonry’ type of gallery as you were showing on other collection pages.

I’m working on a ‘masonry’ style template with updated lightbox buttons, would this be something of interest to you?

It will be an optional template anyway when I’ve finished testing.

Morning Brad,

Seems my post overlapped yours.

Thanks for staying with the add-on.

Forgot to provide a link to the 'masonry' demo: http://55web.uk/test
