I don't know, I only designed the templates for the usual image file type and I doubt if they would do anything useful for pdf files without modification.
Then try creating a new template based on one of these, but change the code to include pdf files with the file types shown.
Beware that doing so could result in complete pdf files being served to a browser, so it could make the list a massive page to render, even if the browser is capable of showing them in thumbnails. Even then, the result could be browser dependant.
