I think you may have set the height setting of the map to 100%, try putting in a pixel value, such as 400px. The map is outputting on the page, it's just that it currently has 0 height.
If you're wanting to tie it to the height of the browser in some way, you could try putting in as the height 100vh, that may achieve the sizing you are after - I've just not really tried this in practice. Sometimes with sizing I'll tie it to the width, so you could also try something like 50vw as a setting.
