Page Auto Redirect makes 302 redirects

Permalink Browser Info Environment
Hi,

After consulting one of the leading seo people in Denmark, we had a discussion about Page Auto Redirect. We found that when redirecting it makes this as a 302 redirect (temporary redirect). This should be a 301 redirect (permanently redirect).

Any suggestions?

Michael

Hi Michael,

Thanks for your input on the redirect. Indeed, a 301 redirect will transfer page rank to the redirected page, however, if the redirect is intended to be changed at any point in the future than 302 temporary is more appropriate IMO.

I'm thinking of a couple options:
1) Make the default status a 301 (need to research potential pitfalls).
2) Add an option to make the redirect 302 temporary (default) or 301 permanent.

I'm leaning towards #2 but I need to research what pitfalls can occur by sending the 301 as default.

I have made a little research my self. I simply added the code:

Header('HTTP/1.1 301 Moved Permanently');

before line 77 in page_auto_redirect.php

But of course to do this as an option would be nice.

Great, glad you got it sorted out.

I'll add an option in the next release for 301 or 302 redirect status (with the exception of the 'random child page' option =).

Cheers,
