Various Carousel Questions

Permalink Browser Info Environment
Hello there.

I bought this Whale Owl App for my daughters photography website (www.chameleonpicsnflicks.com under redevelopment) recently on. Great idea to put some sample sliders into the default apps, it really does help beginners like me. Some lightbox examples would be good be beginners like me.

1.My daughter has alot of photos of different sizes which I want to display using the Whale Owl slider frame, fixed to say height of 500pixels for the moment.

I’ve tried adding the pictures to the slider and viewed the results, but the images tend only to be part of the whole photos loaded into the slider. As the photos are of different sizes, any animated text also doesn’t appear to be positioned either.

Is there anyway the frame height can be set to fixed height and the slider resizes whatever photos I thrown at it please. If the photo does not fill the full width of the frame, I am not worried – hopefully I can set the blank side fill colour on either side of the image.

2. Currently, the Owl slider spans the whole width of the frame/page. It is possible to set it to any percentage of the frame screen width, say 80%. Similarly for the height as a percentage figure. Then I’d like the slider to resize all the images added to it.

3. Do have any really cool and varied lightbox examples you could share please?

Be wary I am a beginner to Concrete5, but am able to follow any step by step instructions.

If it helps my concrete5 user id is concrete1964 and we can communicate via email, telephone or other method such as setting up access to the site.

Best regards,

Hi,
Sorry for the delayed answer. It seems I miss this one.
1- You can define a constant height for all every slide at:
Slides > Slide Image Size (Don't forget to click on the chevron-up icon at the top-right corner of each slide first)
2- For setting the frame width you can use C5 core feature:
On the edit-mode: Click on the block and select "Design & Custome Template" > Click on the cog icon > Box Container Class > Select "Enable Grid Container"
3- For enabling the lighbox mode, Just enable the feature and you can start playing with the options. It should be quite self-explanatory.
Please come back to if any of these instructions didn't make sense.
Cheers,

Ok, tried your steps 1 and 2 below.

Ref your step1:
Editted each image to be 500px height (left width at 0, assuming auto adjust)

Ref your step2:
Applied that 'Enable Grid Container' container stuff...

Cleared the cache.
Refreshed the slider page.

Result==>

Good news is the slider does not span the width of the page anymore and active text + boxes now appearing...

Bad news is that some images are still being truncated as before, despite height been set to 500px.

Look at:

Please advise.

If you want to obtain constant dimension in multiple pictures with different size, you should either crop or stretch them. Stretching the images would result in an inappropriate result, so the only option would be cropping them and in case of meaningful different sizes between your images, you will lose a part of your images.
Another option for displaying these images with all different sizes, usually used by the photographers, would be using a missionary gallery. Check out our other add-on, "Grid Gallery 2", demo here:

Reprocessing (resizing) every photogtraphic image is regtrettably not an option to use with your slider. Retrettably I see it as a major limitation of the app.

Your other option (another commerical app Grid Gallery 2) could not be evalauated as errors were flagged when I tried to click on any lbutton/link.

Please contact the server administrator at webmaster@concrete5.killerwhalesoft.com to inform them of the time this error occurred, and the actions you performed just before this error.

Additionally, a 500 Internal Server Error error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

So in conclusion, from a beginners viewpoint, your responses renders this purchased Whale Own carousel app wholly unsuitable from my viewpoint as it does not have the basic function to automatically resize images. :-(

Feel free to recommend any working solutions.
