Oversized Item

Permalink Browser Info Environment
Hi John,

I own a mail-order record store, am a new C5 user and just installed ZBS to handle both domestic and international shipping. Most of what we ship is CDs (5"x5") so the packaging weight is nominal (just a padded envelope). What I would like to do is add a surcharge for orders that include an LP (12"x12") -- especially for international orders since the cost jumps considerably. An LP weights 9 ounces and the packaging weighs 11 ounces. But, I don't want to just add the packaging weight to each individual LP since an order w/2 LPs would only weigh 29 ounces. Can this be done? Maybe using a surcharge for anything over a certain size? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks. Geoff.

Hi Geoff

This is a fairly simple one to set up and one of the scenarios ZBS was designed to cater for right from the start.

On the cost basis tab, enable both the weight cost basis and the maximum single dimension cost basis. This will show 2 columns for the cost basis on the shipping cost rules tab.

Then put together shipping costs rules by weight bands for orders with a maximum single dimension smaller than 11", and then weight bands for maximum single dimension bigger than 11" (just pick any arbitrarily large number here, unless you want another dimension based cost break).

If you put in some numbers and run some tests carts for just one zone, then when you are up to speed on that you can use what you have learned to put in similar rules for your other delivery zones.

If, rather than weight, you ship by the number of items, then its the same thing but with number of items and maximum single dimension both enabled as cost basis.

Let me know if I can be of further help.

John
