Fantastic Theme! I don't understand these bad reviews at all!

Shine4897
This was/is a fantastic theme, but from the beginning the developer got hit with some bad feedback, most of which I didn't understand after working with the theme myself. As with any theme, you have to explore a little to get it's full value, and a theme with this much to offer certainly requires you to look around a little to find all the features. Not because it's disorganized, but because it has so much to offer. Goldhat, thank you for your excellent work! And I am SOOOO glad I found it while it was still free. I do freelance, usually for free for people/organizations I care about and my budget is usually $0. To find this theme for free was a godsend. Thank you. Please don't stop developing based on the bad reviews. Your work is appreciated.

Right under add review it states Please note: Reviews last forever. If your review is negative or you're encountering a particular issue, have you tried support first?

Loving this project

This project saved a small puppy from a burning building this morning. Just though you should all know that.

Review system might be a little bit broken

goldhat
Continuing my thoughts on people who leave reviews in place of support requests, how are people who are incapable of reading the following notice capable of writing a review in the first place? Is their English capability fluctuating from moment to moment? We need to find a way to fix this review system.

Please note: Reviews last forever. If your review is negative or you're encountering a particular issue, have you tried support first?

I think it's pretty good value for the price

I'm the developer of this item but the review system is letting me add a review anyway. That's really strange but then the same system let one of the reviewers post twice.

When items are free and you use the review system as a support desk you should be nominated for some special kind of stupid badge.

Your columns aren't responsive?

getjoel
I'm a little confused.. You say your theme is responsive yet the only part of it that seems to be responsive is the navigation.. even on the demo?

Responsive means your columns should collapse down into one column?
Response by goldhat on at
goldhat
There may be a problem with the breakpoint in the sidebar column. Looking at the demo, it affects only 1-column, if you look at the 3-col features, footer/header etc. those all break properly.

What URL are you using the theme at? Did you actually build a site with the theme or did you just visit the demo and then leave a 1-star review?

You may have missed our anti-douche statement designed to thwart off douches.

-- As a courtesy and good rule of thumb for any community project, do not leave a negative review about this project unless you have tried the support desk first --

Your columns aren't responsive?

WOW.. You're ass#$$. First of all.. I didn't even try to leave a negative review. I actually looked for a support link and there wasn't one. I see now that completely separate from your navigation you have a get help link that I didn't notice.. So I apologize for that.. but I wasn't trying to leave a negative comment.. I clicked on REVIEWS to see if I was missing something.. saw nothing about the fact that out of the box your two column layout doesn't actually break and even your demo that you offer doesn't break into one column.. So being the only free responsive theme on Concrete5.. I asked the question (YES QUESTION!) if I was missing something.. and it wouldn't let me submit it without clicking on a damn star. so of course I'm not going to click on 5 friggin stars if your theme says RESPONSIVE and the two examples I got to see after taking the time to install it didn't break!

Furthermore.. If you can't handle a question from someone trying to use your theme without being a complete and total ASS&)(*(! about it.. then maybe you're in the wrong business! DOUCHEBAG!

Furthermore.. I didn't review your stupid theme twice.. I reviewed it once and have no idea why it was submitted twice.. Sounds like a bug. Or maybe my internet connection.. but if I were you.. I would be more concerned about people seeing how much of an ASS&O*U*I you are to the people that do take the time to download your stupid theme than the rating you might end up with due to my clicking on one star for your review!

No.. I don't have an example to show you as I obviously wasn't going to keep a site up and running that didn't work..

And YES.. Now I am absolutely legitimately giving you a ONE FRIGGIN STAR review.. because your support is abrasive and rude to people simply trying to use your damn theme!

Wow you managed to leave 2 negative reviews, again without any support tickets and no evidence you actually used the theme in a project. This review system rocks! I wonder why there is so little free stuff available in C5. Is it possible that when idiots leave a review like this they actually believe they are asking for support? I mean is that why it's phrased as a question?

This is the best free theme I've found on here so far. With a basic working knowledge of CSS and PHP, you can manipulate these bones to do just about anything you need. Thanks for making it free!

Good Clean Theme.

I needed a good simple theme to use on websites while they're getting designed.

This theme is good and can be easily built upon by anyone who has a basic understanding of Concrete5 themes and web design code.

Just add your logo to top, add an autonav and apply 'Topnav' template and that's it really. Didn't need the two-col headerWrap area, so I just removed all lines in between this div in the /elements/header.php and now it's pretty perfect for my needs.

A really good, clean and simple site could easily be designed using this. That first reviewer hopefully shot himself. If you don't know basic development, pay someone who does and stop whinging over something FREE.

Great responsive starter theme

SnowyMountainWeb
Just be sure to follow the instructions listed in the review by "seniorb". I could not get the 'custom templates' option to appear until after following his instructions.

This is a basic, starter-type theme. Seems limited to a right sidebar only at this point. However, creating a Foundation 5 theme in Concrete 5 is definitely not for the faint-of-heart. I applaud 'goldhat' for his efforts at making a FREE Foundation 5 theme available.

In addition, the performance of the website I am currently building with this theme is blazingly fast, for a Concrete 5 website ;)

Kudos to goldhat for his efforts!

Thank you for sharing your appreciation of this work. It is a starter effort so far, your review helps motivate further work on it. There should be support for left sidebar and full page, I'll double check if there might be a problem with those templates.

Just to correct the ratings - this is an excellent theme and a great starter for responsive

seniorb
Used this for 2 different clients now and it's fine; make sure the first thing you do is edit the home page, add the logo or title to "Sitewide AboveHeader" and then put in an AutoNav with the Topnav custom template selected.

The rest is pretty straightforward; try resizing the window and you'll see what a difference a decent responsive theme can make.

Thanks very much for making this free!

Glad to hear the positive feedback seniorb, much appreciated. This motivates me to get back to work on the next version with a few important improvements.

Not looking good..

damery
I just downloaded you theme and added it to my site...trying one page to make sure it is working well and ...it is NOT.
The menu is crap and seems to be missing something.
I did not trouble shoot this yet...
Did I miss something in the set up? after activate?
Give it a look before I change it...

*Update: I see the issue is cultural, your customer service is as good as your theme. I have already hit myself in the head for trying to use your "not looking good" theme. I do not change my review as it appears there are more issues than just poor menu style. I only wish I could take back the lone star I gave.

If you had posted a support request we could have easily helped you fix any issues you were having getting things setup. Obviously it is possible to reproduce the Cobalt demo site which includes the Foundation topbar menu... because it runs on Cobalt! This however is completely inappropriate (to request support in a negative review) and so for that reason first I want to ask you to use another theme, secondly I want to encourage you to go to the nearest mirror in your home and repeat after me "writing reviews instead of support requests when I'm facing development issues with a theme or addon is a douchebag move and next time I consider doing that I will smash myself in the face with my fist instead".

So good it should have a price tag

goldhat
When an item is free people who haven't even used it can post negative feedback or use the feedback board as a way to seek support. To avoid this we have changed the license from GPL2 to standard marketplace and Cobalt is now a commercial theme.

goldhat
Are you still going to provide horrible horrible horrible service now that's a paid theme? Or is that the definition of service, that when somebody has paid for the item then you are providing "service" as opposed to "free support" or in this situation, "responding to invalid feedback"?
