Have you tried using another browser in editing your website? Can you please try another browser in editing your website and let me know if it is know working if not send me a screenshot of your screen with the error showing and please send me your Environment Information. Thanks!

I have installed fresh concrete5 8.5.4 and with the latest Crimson Theme and tried to go to the composer and I did not experience any error in my end. Have you tried clearing your browser cache after the concrete5 update? If not can you please clear your browser cache and access again to your website. Let me know if this solves your problem.
