Problems with the main/Home page

Permalink Browser Info Environment
Hi
Hope you can help me. The Home page is acting a little weird. It worked fine up until a week ago, but now I can't axes the content blocks on various blocks and a image/picture in the parallax block (in the middle) is gone.
Can anybody help me?
Best regards,
Cristine

Hello Cristine,

Thanks for using my theme :)

I am not sure what the problem is but what you are describing sounds like a permission issue or a corrupted file/db installation. Can you check if the file permissions are correct?

Kind regards,
James

Dear James
Thanks for your quick response.
I have to tell you that I am not really that into the whole technical thing ... :-/ So could you tell me where I can see the file permissions?
And also - I am from Denmark, so if my spelling is off sometimes, that's why.

Thanks again.
Best,
Cristine

Hi again. Mayby I can try to explain a little better. And maybe you will see it better if you looked at out websitehttp://www.denfriefriskole.dk
On the homepage (frontpage) I have a parallex picture in the middle of the page (Not the big one with the different pencils) But It is gone now.
Thats the first problem

The second is that I am no longer allowed to add content blocks (the little plus) on the mainpage. When I click on it it just dosen't response, and it automatically sets me ind edit mode (the pencil)

The third problem is that I can not "reach" various content blocks on the front page. I mean specifik the one with the old books in the top of the page. I can no longer edit the content block?

It is also possible that I am the one who can't remember anything. But I don't think it is all because I am no technical genius ;-)

I hope this helped you to see what my problem is.
Thanks :)
All the best,
Cristine

Hi Cristine,

No problem. I believe there are some LESS coding issues on your site right now. Maybe the problems you are dealing now is because of corrupted theme files? Are you able to start a fresh installation with sample content?

If you need me to check further, you can direct message me a temporary login credential so I can look around. :)

Kind regards,
James

Dear James
Thanks for good service! Thats very kind of you.

I have contacted my hosting company and they will restart my database in a version from late March. I think thats the only way to do it.
But if that doesn't work, I will contact you again and provide a login for you, so you can take a look. Thank you for that offer.

All the best,
Cristine

Hi agani, James
Well, it did not work. But my hosting company told me where the problem is. It is in this: /home/denfrief/public_html/packages/c5box_framework/themes/framework/css/build/layout.less
where there is something wrong with the less file ... If I understand it correct ... witch I really dont' :-/

Can you tell me what to do?
I am kind a desperate ...

And if you have to get a login, please let me know.
All the best

Hi Cristine,

Dont worry, we should be able to fix this.

Firstly, as I mentioned on the thread above, there seems to be an issue with your LESS file. Have you modified it recently? You can also download the theme files and dump the new file on your server to update it. If this is complicated, you can give me the ftp credentials & c5 login and I'll do it for you.

Let me know if you are OK with this.

Kind regards,
James

Hi James
I would be great if you could do it. I am a little desperate because we were to launch to day ... But we can wait a couple of days.

Can you give me your email-adress, so I can provide you with the necessary login? I can get my hosting company to upload the file so you won't need to do that for me.
Thank you very much! Really ...

All the best,
Cristine

I took a look at your site again and it was working correctly. Did you manage to fix it? If you still need me to do some fixes, please private message me the credentials here on concrete5.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to help.

Kind regards,

Hi James
well, nothing seem to be working. My Hosting company tried to fix it. I have removed and deleted the Theme, installed another og downloaded the theme again and then installed it again.
And the same mistakes appear. Can you sent me your detalis so I can provide you with a login?

I know, that I might have made a mistake by adding HTML kode on the mainpage, but the problem with the parallax picture happened before that. But now I know not to do that again.

All the best

Well, I tried again. And God must have smiled at me or something.

I have now installed it again and now it works. But I need to start all over ...
Can you please tell me what NOT to do in the future?
I am not sure, I have made a proper back-up also. And the thing about going back on specifik sites to remove mistakes - I don't know where to do that.

So. Please let me know what to do to make sure this does not happened again ...
I need to get a formular from Mailchimp in. Mayby thats the one making the mistakes on the frontpage (not with the missing picture though) because I tried to install a pop-up window with a sign-up formular.
Can't I do that again? I made a single page where there is a sign-up form, so it is possible to sign-up on the webpage. But it seems like the problem happened on the frontpage.

I hope you can translate my english and guide me a little.
Thanks for your help up until now ...
Best regards,
Cristine

HI Cristine,

I'm happy to hear that it worked out after installation.

Here are some tips when working with concrete5.

1. Concrete5 has a versioning feature. You can see it in settings > versions. This feature allows you to restore/rollback to previous versions of your page.

2. There is a bug with C5 i have noticed that when you copy the parallax block and paste in in a wide area, it will add a container around it. You may have experienced this on your site.

3. Dont add the parralax block on a layout. Layouts have containers where it will restrict the block from spreading to its full width. Add the parallax block on a full with area.

Please let me know if you need help with anything else. :)

Kind regards,
James

Hi James,

From what I could make of the problem description here, it appears that I am having at least part of this problem. On my homepage, I am suddenly unable to edit any page areas. I can edit an existing block, but can not add new layouts. Every time I try to hover over these "tabs" (eg Banner, Home Section 1, Home Section 2) the mouse pointer turns into a text pointer rather than the "hand", thus making the area un-clickable to add/edit. This is an issue only on the home page.

I tried to roll back to a previous version but the problem persisted. I then created a brand new page of "home" type (page name HomeNew) and tried to just reproduce the home page. About half way through the effort, the same problem happened on the new page.

I saw you requested a login from the previous user to poke around. In case you can help, I have preempted you and created one. I will send it via PM

Thanks

I figured out that the issue happened after I added an HTML block containing blockquote code. Run of the mill blockquote so I'm not sure why it happened or whether it is related to C5 or Framework.

Either way, to fix this, I had to delete all versions of the page until I got back to the version before adding the blockquote. I was then able to edit after approving that version.

Hope this helps someone else having this issue.
