Editing Global Areas in Fundamental theme

Permalink Browser Info Environment
Hello,

I bought yesterday the Fundamental theme with the sole intention of recreating my successful trilingual website (built with the free Elemental theme) so that it is fully responsive.

Unfortunately, after designing the site navigation menu and more than 25 pages, I realized that the layout is made up to 99% of Global Areas.

I tried creating my own named stacks and my own named blocks but that does not allow me to create individual content for each of the site pages.

1) Is there a systematic way (through php) to turn all those global areas into specific individual "unglobal" page related area ? (All of my pages use the full layout)

2) More generally, what is the point of having so many global areas ? How can each page show its individual content ?

Thank you for your time.

Kâmi

Hi there.

What page type are you using. There are "non-global" areas in the various page types.

For example, the 'Right Sidebar' page type has:
- header image
- main
- sidebar
- footer

You can then of course use the layout tool in any of these areas to create further control of placement of elements/blocks on a page.

Hello,

1) "What page type are you using. "

I added a page in my sitemap ("Add page") and selected the "Empty page".

In the Page template section, I tried by selecting both a "blank page" and a "custom page".

2) "There are "non-global" areas in the various page types."

I am going to list here just three global areas in each of the page types mentioned above (I won't list them all because there are at least a dozen of them and I am sure that as a theme creator, you are familiar with every single one of them):

a) Empty Sitewide Branding Full Area
b) Empty Sitewide Header Nav Alt Area
c) Empty Main Area

I would appreciate if you could also comment on the following connected thread, which never received any replies from the theme support actually.

The theme has been developed to try and offer a lot of flexibility and through the various page templates and available areas, I believe that this is one of the most versatile themes on the market.

To help me understand your issue further, could you please explain what you are trying to achieve and why you think the theme is limiting you here?

In regards to the other post you mention - ordinarily theme customization is not covered in the support service. Manually altering files with the package is certainly not.

Changing an area from global to non-global is possible but it has to be done in the code and should only be done with precaution and after backing up your site.

We do not support this as mentioned but you are of course free to use the theme as you wish. It is worth noting that any changes you make to the theme will be reverted if you ever upgrade the theme in the future.

You may be advised to consult the concrete5 documentation if you wish to edit a theme.

1) "could you please explain what you are trying to achieve and why you think the theme is limiting you here?"

I think I explained myself relatively clearly in my previous post but I'll try again.

The huge number of global areas in the theme limits my work because the content of my 50 pages is different for every single one of them.

I can choose to leave those global areas blank (because I do not want the content in one of those global areas to be repeated on any two pages) but that leaves much too much empty space (and that defeats the entire purpose of the site.)

I am ready to switch to another theme your company offers but I cannot work with this theme.

My goal is to make this site (https://www.munichsitters.com) fully responsive.

Looking forward to your suggestions.

If there is no content in an area then this area does not take up any space.

Basically what I'm saying is; if you don't want/need to use the global areas, then don't and this will have no impact on your overall design/layout.

Simply use the non-global areas available.

BTW - the site you linked to has most of the content in a full width container.

So use the full width page type in this theme and then put your content in the 'Main' area. ;)

This is certainly not true.

You can see why this is not true if you look at the attached file.

On both screenshots (editing mode/live mode), how do I use the space within the red

contours ?

Please see the attached screenshots.

1.) The first one in edit mode, shows the areas expanded.

2.)The second shows the published page where these areas have collapsed...

You can also see this page live here -https://currentlyvacant.co.uk/test-portfolio-page...

I created a new page and gave it the left sidebar page type. I made no further customizations.

If I wanted to get rid of the blue at the footer of the page then I could set the top footer padding to 0px in the design customizer.

Hi again.

I have a better understanding of how the theme works now but encountered in the last 24 hours a bit of an odd problem.

In my English and French top navigation menu, the submenu anchor links are displayed with no problems as you can see:

https://nurture-care.com/eng/babysitters-and-au-pairs...

https://nurture-care.com/fr/babysitters-et-au-pairs...

(You can click on any the top menu anchor links and the down arrows appear)

In German, for some reasons, nothing appears even though the settings are identical:

Any ideas where the problem could lie ?

Thanks,

K.

This theme does not control the translation functionality - this is core concrete5 functionality.

You would be advised to seek help in the general concrete5 forums.
