Page Creation

Permalink Browser Info Environment
Guys

I've set up the theme with the standard Home, About and Contact pages using the Arizona start design which is great.

See:http://91.109.7.116/~demo050216...

I am having real issues trying to create new pages which look like the About page i.e. with full width content areas. I have been using 5.6 for 5 years now and have only just moved to 5.7 now it seems to work OK.

I've been going to the Sitemap to add page under Home as usual , am given the option for blank, basic or blog and select blank as the About page seems to have this page type.

When you visit the page (Test 1) it's blank. Going to the Design bar a Composer option appears at the top which it doesn't on the About page and then when you go to Design underneath you only get the Blank option whereas on the About page you get a whole series of options - left site bar, full etc. When you select these on the About page however it trashes the layout?

What I want is to keep the About page full width on a new page. The only way I can do this at present is to move and copy the page as you can see I have done on the Copy page in the menu.

I'm doing something simple wrong I am sure. I don't know why the Composer option is appearing either? I think the system thinks I am writing a blog page?

Can you tell me how to create a new page with the Arizona layout without having to copy the About page please? Must be simple!!!

Ian

Guys

Ignore the below please. I think I have sussed it.

What I now cant see is why my new pages have a Composer option under page settings?

New pages are configured to run with composer, if you do not want this then simply turn this off - index.php/dashboard/pages/types

Please refer to the concrete5 guidelines for pages as this is not theme specific.

The 'Blank' page type can only use the 'Blank' page template - this is by design.

In 5.7 page types and page templates are quite different. The page type is the data model and the page template is the view effectively. In the package, it can be specified which page templates work with which page types.

In any case, if you want to be able to select 'left sidebar' etc then you need to use 'Basic Page'.

Alternatively, create a 'Blank' page and add the layout/columns using the core 'layout tool' afterall this is the purpose of this page type; to create your own layouts, as per the 'About' sample page.

Many thanks. I think I am getting the hang of this 5.7. Pretty different is it not!

Thanks for your quick support and may I say great template. I can see I could use this for pretty much any site really so worth learning I guess!

No problem. It is a learning curve certainly but one worth taking in our opinion.

Once you get to grips with 5.7 you wont look back - the flexibility is amazing.

This theme in particular is one we feel can help build most types of site, with a bit of imagination and perseverance.

Thanks I think you are right.

Interestingly I have set up in page types for the Blank page type to not have composer and one blank template and then for the Basic page to have no Composer and all page templates.

On both blank and basic pages the composer button now shows under Page settings when editing the page???

I believe the last post may have been a bit misleading...

The 'Launch in Composer' is suppose to decide on page creation, whether or not to open composer, not whether it is present after page creation.

Apparently composer is always available on new pages, see the first post here by MrKDilkington -https://www.concrete5.org/community/forums/usage/composer-in-c5-v5.7...

Unfortunately this type of control is not managed by the theme. Just the way concrete5 works.

For some reason, the sample content does not assign a page types to the pre-defined pages by default, hence no composer. If you change this from the sitemap, adding a page type to the pre-defined pages you will see the composer is then available for those pages.

That explains it. Never mind I am making good progress and the site’s looking good!

Where are you located by the way? Very speed response!

I have checked the content.xml file for the sample content and indeed the 'pagetype' attribute is missing - we will update this in future releases but will only take effect on install anyway.

We are UK based, near Liverpool/Warrington. Caught us at a good time ;)

Cool - same time zone - I’m in Cheltenham.

My apologies but another little issue - just tried to insert a Google Maps block and am getting an error:

"You must enter a valid location"

I am using a UK postcode which works fine in 5.6. See attached.

Sussed it - you need to insert a town so the block finds the town in the drop down then insert the street! Different!!!

Sorry to bother you!

Prob worth pointing out that our support only includes issues with our product i.e. the theme. Core blocks and core functionality issues should be raised on the appropriate forums.

I know this is the case but thought at thew time the block was interacting with the theme. Anyway it works now.

On another note do you do custom programming work on C5 sites? If so can you provide me your company email so i can give you details of a customer requirement I have and perhaps you can let me have a quote?
