Create blog_entry page type using right_sidebar not full

Hi,
I've created a new page_type called blog_entry.php and I understand it defaults to the full.php format as it's not part of this theme. But is there a way to have it change to the right_sidebar.php ?
I;ve been searching through the forums etc but have found nothing so far. If I create my own blog_entry.php using right_sidebar.php I dont get any of the 'Add to Blog Post Header' entries in the page_types edit screen.
