Using theme with international add-on

Permalink Browser Info Environment
My site is set up for 2 pages - English and Chinese. I have completed the English version and would like to be able to select the Chinese page. I inserted an auto nav thinking this might work (I know you said multiple pages won't work). Any suggestions on how I might make this work if at all possible?

Many thanks - really nice theme with good instructions.

Hi,

thanks, glad you like the theme :)

I think the easiest solution, especially if you only need to add a couple of links (English and Chinese pages), would be to add a Content block to the Footer, to the Site Name area, or to any slide you want, with the text "English | Chinese". Then you can simply select each word and use the "Insert link to Page" button. (You could also use images instead of text).

Hope this helps,

Jordi

Thanks Jordi for you quick response. The ideal UI place for language choice
is at the top, upper right under the menu :( So is it that I can't use an
unordered list in the nav bar?

I have a couple of other design issues - but will ask them in a separate
post.

Thanks again for your help.

Hi Bonnie,

you can use an unordered list in the nav bar as long as it does not have the class "nav". I think the auto nav block by default adds the class "nav" to the list, which is the same class name the theme uses for on-page navigation. The Auto nav block should work if you use a different custom template for the block, or if you edit the default one.

As for adding the block to the page, have you edited the theme files? Or have you added it to the Site Name area? If you have edited the header file, it should be pretty easy to place the language menu under the existing navigation.

If you outline the steps you've taken so far (and provide an image of what you're trying to accomplish), maybe I can guide you a bit.

Thanks Jordi. I figured out that the nav class was the problem and ended up
just adding the code to the header. I need to restyle a bit but it is
working. Thanks for your help again.

Jordi -

I do have a question. I have checked everything I can think of, but for
some reason when the nav changes to the pill, my content divs move out of
the structure - float on top of the header and footer (footer is right
underneath the header).

I can see in my mobile html code there is a "wrapper" div and a "scroller"
div. So trying to figure out the problem, if I change the position of the
"wrapper" div from absolute to relative, the div alignment is corrected but
the scroller scrolls the divs over the header so I lose the logo and nav
pill. I can see on your demo that the divs are aligned properly. The scroll
loses the the scrolling overlay effect but you do not lose the header. Is
the demo site's scroll effect on the iPad functioning properly? Shouldn't
the overlays work the same as they work on the desktop? And what is
different on my site that is causing the scroll div to scroll over the
header?

Here's the link to my site in its current state.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Bonnie,

i think you have moved the "main.css" stylesheet to another line in the header.php file. In order for the styles to work properly, it should be loaded after the Bootstrap CSS files. Could you try moving the "main.css" stylesheet right after "bootstrap-responsive.min.css" file and see if that fixes it?

As for the scrolling overlay effect, unfortunately parallax backgrounds are not supported on mobile. As stated on the marketplace page: "parallax backgrounds are disabled on mobile for performance reasons".

If you check out some great sites such ashttp://www.spotify.com/us/ you'll notice parallax backgrounds are also disabled on mobile.

Please let me know if you're able to solve the issue.

That did it Jordi! I don't remember moving the main.css :-)

The way I am using the theme is like a slide show where the content
describes the full height image. I don't know if I would ever have an
opportunity to use it this way again, but I think it is a possibility. It
would be great if I could add the arrows to each area and disable some in
the navigation bar - so in my site's example I have the "The Birds" button
in the main menu which takes you to the text. If the arrow on that text
area moved to the full screen image of the birds that would be ideal in my
situation. Then, a bottom arrow would move to the next topic, in this case
the "The Guano", etc. The text areas become the main nav and the images are
not. Just a thought for possible updates.

Thanks for you help.

Hi Bonnie,

thanks for the feedback :) I had never thought of this possibility, but it makes sense. These days I'm working on the next version of the theme, so I'll see if I can include this feature.

Regards,

Jordi
