How to do animated filtering on portfolio?

Permalink Browser Info Environment
Hi again Jordi: I was looking around C5 help and your site to learn how to create my own categories for pages that'll display in the portfolio, and subsequently how to make those categories appear in the scattered portfolio. Do I use "tags" and then add a custom attribute to the category list page? Thanks... it is really hard to find regular C5 documentation on this feature, even though a few templates implement it. -patricia

Hi Patricia!

You're right, this isn't well explained anywhere. I have added a couple of How Tos on this:

Thanks Jordi! I have a followup question. So, the staged site has improved vastly, but now I need *two* select attributes, the one I'm using for the page below (which works great).

http://www.donnerland.dreamhosters.com/index.php/listings/...

And another one for the sold listings, with a different set of attributes. I'm not able to make this work:http://www.donnerland.dreamhosters.com/index.php/sold/...

To get that, I added another page list with the scattered portfolio custom template, putting listings beneath it. I created a new select-type (category) attribute, gave it a name following similar conventions, and added values relevant to sold listings. I made sure the sold listing pages had the new "sold_listings" attribute applied to them and the "new_listings" attribute removed. For some reason, this 2nd page list doesn't want to pick up the different category(select-type) attribute, so I can only seem to use the first one. Any ideas? Thanks... so super excited about getting this site moving to launch.

Hi Patricia!

The theme was designed to only use one portfolio attribute (the "Portfolio Category" attribute).

What you are trying to do sounds completely reasonable, so I've updated the theme to include this functionality.

Now, if you update the theme to the latest version, you'll find a new Page Attribute called "Custom Portfolio Category". So you only need to go to the sold listings page, select this attribute and enter your custom attribute handle ("sold_listings").

Let me know if this works for you!

(Oh, by the way, the site looks great! Let me know when you launch it!)

Thanks Jordi, getting closer. I'm about to upgrade but first I'm going to do a proper storage of all my CSS customizations (getting the sortable cards looking better). I don't exactly want to fork the theme, but rather just store a CSS over-ride file in the proper place. Although, now the client wants to have a different header font than Just Another Hand (so I suppose I'll have to modify the header file...) I'd rather just upgrade as you add new stuff rather than forking...

I got the custom filters working and it's looking good. Check out the two listings pages...

I did abandon the scattered portfolio because I found that the fonts on the tilted cards were looking jaggedy and I couldn't seem to get the anti-aliasing working for them to look right.

Tons of CSS mods are now in their proper home under /css with a documented path if other updates come along. I think the next big hurdle will be to get the mobile mods working and the forms (which are rather clunky, imo--not your fault). thanks for your great support!

Hi Patricia,

you're welcome!

You really did a great job cutomizing the theme!

As for the forms, I agree they are rather clunky :) I usually install the "Form Tableless Layout" add-on on my sites:

(It makes forms much easier to style)

Jordi
