Hover inconsistency

Permalink Browser Info Environment
Hi!

Quick question. Sometimes when I add a subpage the linking phrase automatically changes color when the cursor hovers over it and sometimes, no matter how many times I try, I cannot make that happen. What I am doing that is causing the hover color change not to engage every time?

I love the look and feel of this theme - it is perfect for me, but this little inconsistency (and the time I take to try and fix it) is making me nuts.

Thank you so much!

Hi Beachgirl,

I have just been on your site and had a poke around, I can't see any specific incidents of link hover effects not working, the main navigation all seems to be working fine, as do any inline links, I also checked for any Javascript errors but your site is all ship shaped as far as errors are concerned.

Off the top of my head I can't think of any reason that some links would be effected and not others, but there are a lot of variables at play, if you could direct me to a specific page and link where I can see the problem, I may be able to advise a little better.

One thought is, it could be a cross browser problem, or a cache problem, if you switch to another web browser does the problem persist? if it doesn't it may well be either your cache or a browser inconsistency.

Let me know on those few points and I will gladly check it out for you.

Regards

David

David -

Thank you for getting back to me so quickly. The page I am currently having difficulties with is
http://pjbraley.com/hello-world/poetry/...

You will see that my latest entry, "To Desiderius" (yes, well, not everyone writes poetry about 500 year old monks...) does not fade to grey when hovering over the title (like ones underneath do).

Once the link phrase is highlighted in the edit box, the way to link subpages (that I know of) is either by using the "add page" option at the top of the toolbar and then choosing the page from the site map OR copying and pasting the page link into the box that appears when you click on the link icon in the toolbox.

Is one way preferable over another? Either way, it does not seem to make a difference to the hover fade because I added the page both ways a couple of times with no change. Yet for some reason, it worked perfectly on the other links.

Thank you for your help,

Beachgirl

Hi Beachgirl,

Sorry for the delay getting back to you.

I can see what you mean, I had a look at the links with the Chrome dev tools and can see some of the headings are links and some are not, so it looks like more like your links are not getting added, both techniques you described are perfectly acceptable ways of adding links, my preferred method is to;

Active which heading you wish to use from the "Format" dropdown.
Write the heading.
Highlight the heading.
Then use "link to page" from the toolbar.

Which by the sound of things that is pretty much what you are doing.

The only thing I can think of is that maybe the text is un-highlighting before you get to choose your page, but you would probably notice that.

to be honest I have no firm answer for you, if you would like me to have a closer look, PM me some admin login details for your site, and I will check to see if anything untoward is happening.

Regards

Dear David -

Sorry for the delay in response...it's a busy semester!

I added a new page last night under Writers on Writing and it added it perfectly. So I went back to my original problem and did a quick cut and paste from one that was working and reset the link, and now it is perfectly fine.

So, although I am not sure why it was so stubborn when I initially added the Desiderius page, all I know is that it works now.

Hurray!

I just love the way the Metro design looks and how well it works on my site.

Thank you for your patience,

Beachgirl
