I want to make some changes to the footer and can edit the files in place, which is fine, except for when the template is updated. Where can I place the less files so that the template will see them? I tried application-> templates-> pixel-> css-> less-> footer but it doesn't seem to work.

I just upgraded from 2.1.2 to 2.3 and my custom.less file was overwritten... good thing I had a backup... This can't be placed in some override location to prevent its deletion?

David,
In 2.1.2- we used to keep the custom files inside the '\packages\theme_pixel\themes\pixel\css\less\' folder. But we learned during the process of upgrading, C5 removes the packages completely and then copy the new version. As a result, these custom files are lost during the upgrade process. In 2.3.0+, we decided to change the folder that houses these files. Now the custom files should reside in '\application\config\pixel_theme\' folder, so they would not be deleted on upgrade.
We will update the docs in the upcoming week, so you would be able to learn more on changes.

Shouldn’t the location be \Application\themes\pixel_theme ? Other themes store their overrides there.

There is no "standard" as to where these files should be housed, and each theme might use its own folder.
