I just came across this issue and decided to answer you.
First of all, you can't upgrade concrete5 from 6.x to 8.x! The code base is totally different. The only way to do this is by migrating the old site to a new site. There is a few ways to do this.
1. You can use the migration tools...
You can download them here:
https://github.com/concrete5/addon_migration_tool...
(for export content from 6.x use legacy version and for importing content use the other)
But this is a fairly complicated approach and you need to really know how the migration tools work.
2. You can of course simply build your new 8.x site from the ground up and copy/paste content from the old 6.x site. If you do not have a lot of pages/content, this might be the best route to follow.
But anyhow, I wish you the best of luck and hope you can pull it through (concrete5 8.2.x is great)!
