changing themes looses page content

Permalink Browser Info Environment
after some big issues on my live C5 site, I am completely rebuilding another C5 site to replace it from scratch. (ugh). I am running into the same issue as before when i first got venture on the first site, about loosing page content or proper layout just because of changing a page's theme. I am satisfied with venture, but because I have One license, I rebuilt the replacement site using "black accents" (a very nice freeby) until i could switch the venture license over. Now that I have done that, again, I loose view of everything that I built when I activate the Venture theme; no navigation, content blocks, etc. I watched a video about "theme view.php" issues (http://vimeo.com/35407334 ). Is this a common issue with all themes? Is there a way to solve this without having to rebuild each page again with a particular theme only page? (in this case, venture). I'm not sure if this video is accurate for this situation because the venture folders look different than his example....plus it's a little old and might be outdated). thanks so much for any help.... hoping not to have to rebuild the site again today.

Hi this is down to the different area names in different themes. Themes are only required to contain a main and sidebar area, which on their own would not make for many layout options, so different themes have more areas with different names.

When moving to a different theme if you are losing content you should move the blocks to the main area before making the switch, this way you will still be able to see the content after the switch and move it to the ares that it is best suited in the new theme.
