Venture Sidebar page type; right or left - responsive design

Permalink Browser Info Environment
Hi, using Venture give me a lot of excitement.
But I found an issue when using right or left sidebar design:

- the vertical separation hairline is drawn using the height of the sidebar content only.

(please refer to attached screen copy)

Thus when you have a main section taller then the sidebar, you end up with a weird looking main section not using available screen space...

Please correct this by drawing the height of the separation hairline using the taller section, wether it is the sidebar or the main section.

We may correct this by padding height of the sidebar when it is shorter than the main section, but doing this broke the responsive design!

Hi,

The separation of the content using the sidebar as the height for the line is by design and not a bug. To have a separater like this, it has to be either a border on the sidebar or the main; there is no easy way to decide which is bigger programmatically and then apply to the largest.

The idea of the line is to give separation from the sidebar content to the main, and not to span the entire height of the page.

This unfortunately is not something we can change in our package as this would impact all of our other customers whom are happy with the current design.

Thanks

Thank you for your fast answer. I understand your position.

Would you consider, if possible, to create an option to let users decide if the separator should be calculated upon main or upon sidebar height ? Doing this would not broke any actual design.

Cause we actually think that this hairline is needed in order to have a 'pixel-perfect' professional page design.

I wouldn't actually mind if your Venture theme was not so excellent. But with such a good tool in hand I'm ashamed to publish a page containing even a very small design flaw.

By the way, I'm really proud of the results Venture gave us on smartphones!

The problem here is that there is no way to ask the user each time how they wish the border to be set.

CSS does not work this way, it is simply set and then applied. By all means, you can change the CSS file so that the border shows on the main section instead although I imagine you would not always want this to be the case.

Would you consider removing the line completely? That way there is no confusion...

Please, don't.
That hairline is important and gives a professional finish to the pages.

So, here is my last try to convince you... (grin)
How about having new page types, as I think that each page type points to its own CSS ?

- Venture full
- Venture right sidebar
- Venture left sidebar
+ Venture right sidebar (hairline tweak)
+ Venture left sidebar (hairline tweak)

As a new C5 user, I actually do not know if I may easily do these changes myself (my programmers). Please feel free to give your better advice...

I was not suggesting I would remove it; as mentioned, we can't make any new design decisions within the package as this would effect all of our users. I was merely wondering whether it would be easier if you removed it yourself.

All page types use the same CSS, so this is not possible in the way you have described.

If you wanted to put the line on the main content as oppose to the sidebar, then this is simply a main.css change. Customisation a like this are unsupported and I would advise you to make a back up of all file before doing this.

Sorry couldn't have been better news but this is one of these personal preference things that just can't be catered for on an individual basis.

Good luck with your project.
