Upgrading concrete5
Special note for Picnik Users
Google’s Picnik service shut down on April 19, 2012. If you want to continue editing pictures in your dashboard, you’ll need to upgrade to a new version of concrete5. In concrete5.5.2 and later, we include a basic built-in image editor that handles basic photo editing tasks (crop, rotate, re-size).
If you're not able to upgrade your site past version 5.4.2.2 at this time but still need photo editing capabilities, check out the Aviary Image Editor add-on.
Before you begin
- Back up your site’s database. It’s always a good idea to do this before you upgrade.
- Find out which version of concrete5 your site is running. The steps you’ll need to take are a little different depending on what you’re using today. Take a look at your dashboard and follow the right instructions below:
concrete5.4

This is the Dashboard design used by concrete5.4 sites. If you're using concrete5.4.2.1 or earlier, you'll need to upgrade to concrete5.4.2.2 first.
Go to Dashboard > System & Maintenance > Update. You’ll see a message explaining that a new version is available.
Download the new version:
Then when the download is complete, click the Update button to install it:
If you're already using concrete 5.4.2.2 (or have just updated to this version), go to Go to Dashboard > System & Maintenance > Update. You'll see this message, letting you know that a new version is available to download:
When the download is complete, click the Update button to upgrade your site to then new version of concrete5:
Important Note:
Many themes and add-ons need to be updated to work properly with concete5.5 and above. When the update is complete, make sure to upgrade your add-ons and themes by visiting Dashboard > Extend concrete5.
concrete5.5.0 and later

If your Dashboard looks like this, you’re almost ready.
Click on the Dashboard button, then click System & Settings.
Find Backup & Restore, then click Update concrete5.
You'll see a message saying that a new version of concrete5 is available to download.
Click the Download button. When the download has completed, you'll see a button labeled Update.
Click the Update button to continue.
You're done!
As always...
Once your upgrade is complete, it's a good idea to clear your site cache. Assuming you've made the leap to concrete5.5 or beyond, all you need to do is visit Dashboard > System & Settings > Cache & Speed Settings > Clear Cache.
This will clear out any outdated pages and other bits of data that might be hanging around.
Upgrading older versions of concrete5
