Only the thumbnails are cropped. The purpose of the cropping here is so all of the thumbnails "line up" in a grid -- since the enlarged images are displayed in a lightbox one at a time it didn't seem necessary to crop them (for most use cases anyway).

(Note that like the Sortable Fancybox Gallery add-on, you CAN shrink down the enlarged images by setting a maximum width and height -- but this scales them proportionally, without cropping.)
