Croping Thumbnails
Permalink Browser Info Environment
Hi I've looked through the documentation and questions asked, but not sure any of them answer this question...
I want to crop the thumbnails without scaling them and if possible select the crop, i.e. I want to show just a specific section of the image not the whole image resized and cropped, is this possible?
A bit like how you do when selecting your facebook profile picture.
I'd be happy to do this by uploading a second 'thumbnail image' if this is the only solution.
Thanks in advance.
Ben

Oops, I misunderstood what you wanted with the cropped thumbnails -- cropping them beforehand won't work either with this gallery because it always uses the same image for both the thumbnail and the enlarged image.
I do have a free block on the marketplace called "Zoom Image Dual" that lets you have separate images for the thumbnail and the enlarged version, but it's just for individual images so you'd have to place each one on the page as a separate block (and use the Area Layout feature to make them line up in columns and rows).
Not an ideal solution, I know, but I think that's all you can do in C5 without a lot of custom coding.

I think i'll have to use the dual zoom image, i've been looking to see how I could assign a thumbnail as an attribute in image properties, but that looks to be a bit above me!
But a cross between the dual zoom image and the gallery i bought which is now redundant would be perfect! thanks

Unfortunately this functionality does not exist in the Deluxe Image Gallery (or any C5 galleries that I know of). I am planning on building an addon that would do what you are asking, but I have no idea when I'll have the time for it as I'm completely busy with client work at present.
So I think for now you're going to have to crop the images prior to upload (or use the "Edit" command in the File Manager to crop them via Picnik).
