Is there an easy way to show only the first image in a file set (rather than show all of them). Then when the lightbox is activated, the user can proceed to look through the remainder of the images?

How familiar with HTML and CSS are you? It wouldn't be hard to hide all of the thumbnails except the first one, but what would make it challenging is figuring out what the layout of that one thumbnail should be -- like how it should appear on the page since it would only be a single thumbnail and not filling the entire area of the gallery.
