Hello, I was searching arround in the Forum if there is an package available for a gallery. I just stop by at you free version of the simple image gallery. Its a nice plugin and very handy and easy for customers to handle the images in a single gallery. But is there any chance in an update to put images in different categories and even in nested categories? For most of my customers it is very complicated to use the conceret5 tree structure to make different categories via pages for the different galleries. It would be more easy for the customer to implement this categorie structur inside the block. To navigate trough the diefferent categories its maybe possible to have kind of preview for each categoriy with a thumbnail and a title. As easy as with the IPhone it must be.

Just give me an hint if this is in the Roadmap for future releases? So far I found no gallery with this functionality here at the C5 site.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Daniel,
There are no plans to add any kind of categories (nested or otherwise) to the gallery. I'm not sure I understand what it is exactly you're wanting to achieve -- but I think everything you describe can be done with File Sets. A file set is like a category of images, and you could add multiple galleries to a page, each one using a different file set to show different groups of images.

Hi Jordan,

thanks for the very quick reply. The thing I want to achieve is to make Gallery Handling for my customers as easy as possible. I know that you can make kind of categories with the filesets and add multiple galleries to the website. I would like to see all this handling in one package. For some of my customers its even hard to understand the filesets and its more complicated for them to understand how to add a new sub site to the site tree. It would be more nice to have just one Block for a gallery to add to one page and all nested galleries I can handle within this single block. Even the navigation between categories and so on. In that way it would be also nice to use Ajax or JQuery to make a nice and smooth changes between categories.

Maybe I think to complicated but from the User point of view it would be easier to handle all in one block insted of creating a block for each gallery.

Anyway. Thanks for your help.

Hi Daniel,
I understand now what it is you want to do. Unfortunately I don't know of any C5 image galleries that work this way. The whole concept of C5 is to edit blocks in the pages they exist on, so managing galleries the way you describe is not something most C5 developers would think to do. I'm not saying it's wrong or bad, just that it would require a decent amount of custom coding on your part to achieve it (because you're basically ignoring many of the built-in features of the C5 framework in order to create your own custom interface).
