Hi Chad,

I purchased problog recently and I am having the same problem, clicking on tags or category list takes to the home page. I've searched the support section and here and could not find anything other than this post and a post referring to this one. Could you please provide some assistance.

Thanks

Nando

go to your problog dashboard settings and set the search path. make sure the page being pointed to has a standard C5 search block on it.

I've tried searching this Q & A and support forums but I can't see a thorough explanation of this?

Do i need to create a stand alone page with a search block in the main area then assign this in the problog dashboard or am I way off?

correct.

Create any page on your site for search results, and simply make sure that there is a standard C5 search block on it.

Then, in the dashboard, make sure that the PB settings point to that page for search results.

ah ok, the one thing I never saw was that you use custom templates to make up the side column so you can make that page have the same sidebar as the blog.

Is there away to style the main area which has the search results i.e. tags of categories like the rest of the blog list or does it have to be done manually?

you would need to make a custom block view for the search block and use the blog list block as an example of how to code in what you would like.

Ok, I tried that and didn't get very far so put up a request for someone to send a sample or a price for making one up.

you should be able to simply create a new page, and use the problog post page type to have all the blog extras. Then remove the guestbook and content block, and replace those with a standard search block. done.

You may not have all the tags and stylings...but to be honest...it's merely a search tool...not the blog itself.

I would have thought though that being a blog that when you click to filters by tag or category that the look the same as the index that lists out the latest articles.

Thats all I'm really trying to achieve and I though that is how it should work as thats how most other blogs work. The archive, categories etc all have the same list view i.e. with the date and social icons to the left and thumbnail images.

I'm not slagging the product maybe we are just getting our wires crossed on what problog does. This is the last thing I need to sort to get it handed off to the client so thats why there is the panic.

Is there a way to at least pull out the image and date in the search results?

It's not "default" in the product because the standard C5 search block is not part of the product.

The good news is that you have the freedom to style that search block however you wish. No limits.

It sounds as though perhaps you are new to C5? If so, I could understand your frustration.

But speaking honestly, once you see how stupid easy it is to style blocks on your own...you're going to feel quit silly in panic-ing over such a menial task. no offense intended.

Perhaps some explanation is due:

- ProBlog's stock views are "examples". not limitations. They are simple "hey, here's how you do this or that". if you take the time to look at the views, you would see some pretty thorough commenting.

- ProBlog posts are pages. it's blog page lists are comprised of all the same mechanics of the standard PageList block as well as the Search Block. But all the above blocks do subtle things differently. Which by the way, provides a considerable amount of flexibility and power.

You are projecting your expectations and views as though the product is inadequate and your desired functionality should just be given. which comes across as rude and presumptuous to me. But I'm an American...who am I to be talking about being rude.

I digress...

I don't know why I do things like this. but here is my quickest stab to help you out. Unzip this in your root blocks folder, and then edit your search page, click on the search block, and change it's custom view to "My View".

I charge $85/hr...you have officially MORE than made your money's worth beyond the product..the support...ect. You have paid $45 for a $5,000 development project and $170 in support cost. I GENUINELY hope you are appreciative moving forward. You certainly have not displayed that sentiment to date.

see attached.

I included this in the install. The view for your search block is called "blog search"

Please update.

I like your website btw. nicely done. although, boo on the Expression Engine! :-)

I don't know where to start after your comments...

I apologise if I came across as blunt I was just trying to get to the problem without saying your product was good. I appreciate the low cost of this product and understand the large amount of time that has gone into creating it.

Yes I am new to C5 but not to development and used many other CMS systems. I have managed to make my own custom blocks on c5, so understand how they work.

You must admit there are some parts of the documentation missing about views and custom templates with pro blog and I know if they had been a bit more thorough I could have worked it out myself and not hassled you. You can see other people have had same issues in the Q&A asking for instructions and help getting started too.

The good news is your supplied code resolved my issue and I will know for future. I appreciate the time you took to resolve this issue and do plan to use your addons in future projects so you should make your money back. Should I require this level of assistance in the future I will ask if you would like to quote for the work.
