Problems with styling
Permalink Browser Info Environment
I bought the v3 add on but having a small issue with the templates and my custom theme.
I created a view.php file and then followed your tutorial on post types, however none of the CSS files seem to be inherited from the package? Am i missing something or do I create new styles in my theme for the problog views?

Cool had a play about and it makes sense and also can see where I can move the elements around in the package for the layout too.
you can place whatever wherever you want as long as the area names that are in the example pb_post page_type are there. doesn't matter where they are located layout wise. Entirely up to you!

Hi Chad,
I had a good play about with the code and am almost there with understanding how things work but I have a couple of questions.
The blog in progress is here:http://www.northberwickdentalcentre.co.uk/blog/...
1. How do I add things like the category list and tag cloud to the side column of the blog homepage/list page. You mention blocks in your video but I can't see any except "page list" when I go to add a block.
2. In the package where is the side bar items set?
Thanks for your help

Hi,
you do need to make sure that the "area name" within your sidebar is "Sidebar". This is more of a concrete5 thing than a ProBlog Specific issue. Standard practice for themes should be "Main" & "Sidebar".

ah I see I changed it to that and messed up the site so I'll need to look into doing a batch change on the DB.
When i did change it it never changed the sidebar part though?

I would recommend purchasing a theme, if at the very least to see how others do things?

I've looked at other paid and free addons and missed this bit.
I paid for your add on so thats why I thought that you would be able to help me answer this one question.
I have another 3 sites to do that all need blogs like this so I just want to get the first one done so I can understand what i need to do for the others.

for some reason to me it sounds a great deal like you are over-complicating this. I don't mean that to sound harsh....but this is REALLY simple stuff. Simple that is if you are already simi-familiar with Concrete5.
let me outline for you:
1. - have a theme that has either a left_sidebar.php, or a right_sidebar.php. these must use the C5 recommended and standard area names of "Main" and "Sidebar".
2. - install PB.
3. - create a root level pb_post.php page_type as per the video, and make sure that any needed wrapping divs and containers are there to match perfectly with your theme. baring in mind that this page_type (all application specific page_types by the way) will use the view.php to "wrap" around what is in this page. So in lieu of this, you do not need to include the header and footer, as your view.php should be including this already.
if you happend to have installed the app and did not have Main or Sidebar for area names...all is NOT lost. You simply need to edit the page_type code for your pb_post page type, and change the area name. The content is there in the table weather or not you see it on your page due to that area not being there or not.
In other words, I could have an area named "Something" that has blocks on it. then change that area to "Main", and those block seem to have disappeared. If I change that area name back to "Something", those blocks will re-appear.
The package install adds any needed blocks to the Sidebar area for the pb_post page type. it doesn't matter if the page had the correct area name or not.
So change the sidebar area name to Sidebar, and those blocks will magically appear.

I have all this and the blog works.
I think there was simply a miscommunication as I was just after how you added things to the sidebar but I rewatched the video and when you mentioned "blocks in the sidebar" about 8.15ish in I missed the part where you added the block.
I thought there were some other problog only blocks that I was missing from my package.
Drama over

well the app installes the blocks automatically to the page_type. (pb_post.php) So they are just "there"
you can edit the page_type defaults to modify them.
I was simply pointing out, that if you are not seeing these, it's because you have the wrong area name is all.
Sorry for any confusion.

Hi Chad,
I have the following problem, I was changing the default sidebar set up for Problog posts and accidentally deleted the tag cloud from the sidebar. Is there any way to get it back with or without a fresh install?
As you point out above the install seems to create these blocks, but I don't see the option to read instances of them using the standard popup/dropdown for adding to sections.
Please advise.

just add the problog_list block, and change the custom template to 'tag cloud'

what you would do is give the div's in your new custom pb_post page type unique id's/class's that match your existing design styling. So if your side bar in your theme is classed "my_sidebar" , your pb_post page type sidebar div would have this as well.
In other words...it's unique to your theme. if your theme doesn't have a sidebar...then you will have to add that.
The main reason for this is that there simply is no way for me to fit a layout or page type into everyone personal design and styling preferences.
Hope this helps
