Why is the Truncate on the category page dealing with the Blog Description instead of the blog content?

I was thinking the Description field was pure for meta dscription and de truncate worked on the blog content, but it doesnot.
Anyone how's why?

In my opinion meta descriptions are not really very SEO heavy players, and if they are, for some SE, there is a limit on the number of characters. Which is, I think, less then the truncate I want to do for my category pages.

Any thought on this one?
