You need to login via FTP to make such modifications.

Ok,

1. Download FTP program, such as FlashFXP for Windows or Transmit for Mac.

2. Contact your hosting provider and let him provide you with a FTP account with Username and Password.

Then login and you can edit everything... I can't help you further than this.

Actually, you must be hosting the site "somewhere",your collage is hosting this for you i guess, so you need to contact the person that set this up...

I'll try to give you some advice with my nascent knowledge that's a little clearer than what they gave you.

1) First you need to get admin rights to upload FTP files to your install of Concrete 5. Talk to your college.
2) Once you have that use your FTP program to grab the file vivatemplates told you to get. I use Cyberduck for Mac.
3) Open the file in a plain text program. On Mac it's TextEdit, on Windows SimpleText.
4) Make your edits as he suggests.
5) Save your file as the same exact name.
6) This is the important part: upload your file to the empty folder in the first place (for lack of a better name) that matches in name the same location where you pulled the file from.
Note: when you install Concrete there is a root folder full of empty folders that mirror all of the folders in the folder named "concrete". When you update a file you should always place it in this root folder. Don't replace the file in "concrete". This way you preserve the original files. A sweet feature.
7) It should now work.

Hopefully this helps. I don't have more time to offer help, but this should steer you in the right direction. If anyone more C5 savvy has other suggestions please add.

Best,
Spencer
