Auto Indexing

Permalink Browser Info Environment
I have another request please.

Having to Index records each time a new entry is added to the form means the difference between having a self-running system vs having to have a full time admin. Given that you set it up that way for a reason, and that there must be situations when having to manually index would be desired - could you add a checkbox that would allow me as admin to specify that I would want a forms submissions to Auto Index.

What I mean is to have the system auto index every time a new entry is added or everytime an entries approval status changes.

This would be a crucial need for me in making this work, if it helps to distinquish requests that way.

Thanks Justin,

David

Check out the "System & Maintenance" page of the Dashboard. You'll see a job called "Advanced Forms - Index Records". You need to setup a cron job to automate this process. Depending on your webhost, there should be somewhere in your control panel where you can configure this.

Thanks Justin.

Can you confirm than that there is no way to have it update automatically every time a new entry is submitted?

And given my lack of familiarity with cron jobs and your obviously knowing about them as you set a few up, can you tell me if there is a downside to running them very frequently, ie every hour?

I don't have any more cron jobs but the default install of C5 and those created for advanced forms. Thanks.

The Advanced Forms Search Index job is not very processor intensive unless you just have an absolutely huge amount of records (as in, thousands). I think running it every hour would be just fine. I'll see about adding an option to re-index records when form is submitted.

Oh that would be so ideal to have it auto index after a form is submitted. That just seems so key if a search field is integrated on the data display side. Thanks.
