Clear default value on field

Wonder if anyone can help me.
You can set the default value on a field in HTML5 using placeholder attribute, then when you click on the field and start entering text the default value disappears.
How can I get this to work on advanced forms? Currently the text wont go away when you click to enter text, does anyone know of a solution?
