Creating a user submitted photo gallery with advanced forms and data display

Permalink Browser Info Environment
Hi-

I would like to understand if I might be able to use advanced forms and the data display module for adding user content to my site. I am still new to concrete5…

I have created a Concrete5 site (www.hikingwalking.com) that displays various information about hiking trails. I would like to expand the site to include user submitted content. Specifically I would like to start by allowing users to submit photos for a photo gallery. Eventually I would like to add options for user to submit trail information.

Here is how I would like the process to work:

1) A user that wishes to submit content must become a member of the site.
2) Members can then submit photo(s) and create a member photo gallery for a specific trail. When they submit the photo(s) they can add a caption and specify a name for the gallery.
3) All submitted photos with the captions will need to be approved by a system administrator (to prevent the addition of inappropriate content).
4) At a later point users could go back to their person photo galleries and add additional photos or change captions. Again changes need to be approved by a system admin.

My wish is to use jordanlev’s Deluxe Image Gallery for the photo gallery software.

Based on the Concrete5 documentation it looks like I can use permissions to restrict the users of the advanced form I create from your addon to members only – seems simple and straight forward.

Based on your demo and documentation I can certainly create a form that would allow a user to upload an image file, a text caption and a photo gallery name. (Question – when including the upload file option will the user be presented with a user friendly interface for selecting the file from their local computer? Would there be any problems allowing a user to upload multiple files/images with a single form?)

In the perfect world I would like to be able to group the submitted files in a set and approve all files submitted. The file set would then be used in a photo gallery using jordanlev’s deluxe photo gallery software.

What is not clear to me is where do the uploaded files end up in concrete5? Do you add them to the file system or place them in a directory? Is that something the system admin needs to do manually?

Could I use the data display module to create the photo gallery? I tried playing around with it but got an error message that it could not access the file manager.

Any suggestions are sincerely appreciated.

Thank you.
