Any possibility of adding the option to link to an external page for the event and auto open in a new tab? Or just allow custom content instead of just a plain text field for the description.

To achieve this you could add a custom template and change what happens in the `eventRender: ` javascript function. Just add target="blank" to the anchor tag.
