Timestamp field

I have a one ow two suggestions.
When I tried to use the date with "mm-dd-yy" format, it won't sort properly.
And I also want to display the day of the week such as "Monday, Tuesday".
I can think of two different solutions... 1) to store the date info in UNIX time, then convert to the format, or 2) to add the time stamp field to the advanced field? And then we can sort easier and choose the various type of format option?
I think it's better and easier to add the time stamp field in advanced form and data display?
