Using an include in the data display

Is it possible to use an includes such as: $this->inc('elements/includecode.php'); in the data display detail template? I've tried putting it in to no avail. Is there a way to make it work?

I guess I should mention what I'm trying to do is do a database call from a different table to display a list.

No, the template only accepts HTML, not PHP or SQL.
