In terms of what they do, it's basically the same concept. The biggest fundamental difference is that this new version integrates with the Advanced Forms add-on, rather than the core Form block, which gives a lot more flexibility with regard to how the data can be formatted, edited, searched, etc.

Specifically with regard to Data Display only (and not Advanced Forms), the biggest difference is a fair amount of new template placeholders (including in-context editing of form records).
