Actually i have expected something else

Permalink Browser Info Environment
Hm... as far as i understand, and i have to admit, it's not easy for me to fully understand what this Add-On is aimed for, but this is obviously not an enhanced version of the free Designer Content Add-On, but something different, created for a different purpose.

Actually i was looking forward to some enhancements of the already great free Designer Content Add-On, such as - maybe a prettier interface, and - most of all - an integrated lightbox feature to display content of any kind in a lightbox (maybe fancybox... will that ever be available?).

I really don't care about the price, i just would love to see a paid version of the popular free Add-On with the same basic functionality and purpose, also independently installable, but with one or more additional features (as mentioned above) and maybe a slightly more stylish interface...?

Cheers,
Michael

Hi Michael,
We have a frequently asked questions page that tries to address a lot of the differences between the free addon and this new Pro version:
http://theblockery.com/designer-content-pro/#faqs...

In short... as of now they serve slightly different purposes. The "Pro" version lets you create custom blocktypes with "repeating items". The simplest example is a slideshow -- just like how the built-in slideshow block for Concrete5 lets you add as many images as you want (versus the "Image" block which only lets you choose one image), the blocktypes you create with Designer Content Pro let users enter as many or as few images (and captions, and links, etc. etc.) as they want. Whereas the free Designer Content addon would only let users enter one set of info (image, caption, link, etc.).

However, we are working on bringing in the "non-repeating" functionality from the free addon into the Pro version, and at that time it will be exactly what you expected. So you might want to hold off until then... but if you've ever found yourself trying to build a custom slideshow and struggling with editing the built-in one, this is the perfect solution.

As for the lightbox, we are working on having a free front-ends that can be plugged into Designer Content Pro, and lightboxes of all varieties will be part of that. So that is coming soon as well (actually that should be a lot sooner than the other things I mentioned above).

I think you're already on our email announcement list, and if so you'll be notified of when these updates happen. If you're not already on the list (or for anyone else reading this in the future), you can sign up here:

That's pretty cool, thank you for that information.
I'm really looking forward to these upcoming versions, both regular and pro!

Thank you,

I think you should perhaps create a video to explain the benefits. I buy many Add-ons after seeing the videos.

I almost bought it purely because I love what you did for the free module but I had to stop myself when I realized that it was not an enhanced version of the free one and I began to wonder how I will use it.

Thanks for the feedback. We are slowly but surely working on these things... hopefully will have a video soon, and in the long run we definitely plan to make this more of an enhanced version of the free one (as opposed to the alternate functionality for "repeating items" it provides now).

We just wanted to get something out there for people that need the "repeating items" functionality, and then iteratively add in more features. If you'd like to be notified of future updates, we have an announcement list you can subscribe to athttp://theblockery.com

Best,
Jordan

Great work as always, Jordan, and i see the benefit of that add-on, but i think that the name "Designer Content Pro" suggests more an enhanced version of the already wonderful free add-on, than a version for a different purpose.

Personally, i think that many people are actually waiting for an enhanced Designer Content add-on and would love to buy it!

Cheers,
Michael
