Installation of eCommerce module on staging/ live

Permalink Browser Info Environment
I am about to commence my first eCommerce install for a client using CoreCommerce purchased package and SagePay addon. I have just purchased the items and am now being asked which environment i want to apply this purchase to. I want to apply this to the staging environment at this point, but i don't want to then have to pay for a further license for the live environment as this cost hasn't been indicated to the client and is therefore something i will have to cover myself if necessary. Does choosing the staging environment now preclude me from choosing another environment for live later on?

Also, is the license transferrable? I have selected my staging environment now, so i may need to transfer the license to the live environment at some point. Many thanks for any help in advance.

You can actually have two (or more) environments tied into one project page. So typically how we do it is as follows.

1. Start working on a site locally, connect it to the marketplace.
2. Export that database to your server when you're setting up the site publicly.
3. Login to the dashboard. You'll get a message about how the server doesn't match and you'll need to reconnect it.
4. Follow the steps to reconnect the site to the community

Now you'll have one site that has two instances, one on a dev server and one on a live server (although it might say the dev server is the live server and vice versa). Then both sites can share add-on licenses.

Thanks. I was concerned that i might have to buy the licenses for each environment, but sounds like that isn't the case. I have the staging environment in a publically accessible area but with password protection on. When you say locally, does that count?

We are making some changes to the way the Commerce user journeys flow, so will be interesting to see how this all pans out. We are using Sagepay as payment, which we aim to skin, not sure how that will work at this stage... Many thanks for your response Andrew.
