Won't support unless delete and re-add

We are interested in moving to your new version, but you say that you won;t support unless we delete and re-add.
1. Why does this have to be different than most C5 add-ons?
2. If we delete the package, aren't we going to lose all of the customization we did? My developer spent several hours inputting several locations and we don't want to repeat that work.

It sounds a bit harsh, sorry about that.
The old version was a bit crappie, if I might say so.
The new version is much beter, far beter coding and easier to use.
But it comes with a price. New version has a new API (V3) and therefore some new and update functions. Also big database changes.
I just can't guarantee that you won't have any problems after you update the addon. Therefore my statement.
Of course I will try to help you out.
Is there a way you can update your site on a testing server or something? If not, send me your customized extended_google_map addon. I will try to install it on my dev server and see what happens if I update.
