Thank you for discovering this. I've added a check to the view function in the block controller to check if site is in edit mode or not before loading the code to display the block normally. This appears to have solved this issue. File is attached to this message, also includes the other edit with the external link stuff you requested.

Update:

When making the updates for you I accidentally started from a lower version than most recent.

I've remade the edits for you using the most recent version and updated the download page.
