sorry for the delayed reply, I almost missed your question.
At this point I'm not planning to update the add-on for 5.7, for a couple of reasons:
5.7 includes the Magnific Popup script (http://dimsemenov.com/plugins/magnific-popup/) as an 'asset'. So instead of having a seperate block for lightboxes, I now just add in a quick little override and a custom block template for the built in Image block. I wrote this up ages ago but I still believe it will work: http://dimsemenov.com/plugins/magnific-popup/...
For more custom projects I often use the Magnific for galleries and other pop-ups, so it then makes sense to use this library for all cases.
Also Magnific is simply better than the older popup libraries I used in the 5.6 block - it's responsive, it's lightweight, easier to custom style and it has more flexible options. The lightbox scripts for 5.6 worked well for a while, but they're now quite outdated.
This all being said, from an end-user point of view I know people don't want to have to be creating override files to add a feature like this, so I may at some point package up the files that are the blog post I've linked above.

Let me know if you have any thoughts here.
