hi again, just wanted to add, that the contact form would have all the other normal fields you'd want in one, e.g. name, email, subject, message, phone number PLUS this check box.

Not really. This block will provide a form asking for firstname, lastname, email address and a list of items they can subscribe to. These details are then passed on to mailchimp.com from where you can run your newsletter campaigns. It depends on how you want to run your newsletter broadcasts really. You can use the standard concrete5 survey/form which will collate the responses of the form for you to download through the admin panel and give you freedom to create fields you want, or use this addon which is more restrictive in data collection terms but hooks into mailchimp for more broadcasting features and volume.
