Internal Server Error

Permalink Browser Info Environment
Hi,

We set up a site using mega menu in October. The client has been adding pages successful until recently. She moved the order around a little in the site map and since then, she has been unable to add new pages to the site. Every time she does she gets the error:

Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@extendcp.co.uk and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Apache/2 Server at 79.170.44.85 Port 80

We then have to delete that page and the website goes back to how it was.

After going into great depth with Heart Internet about it, we tried uninstalling mega menu to see if that made a difference. It did, we can now add as many pages as we want. We have no navigation at present but the site works.

I tried reinstalling it, I could add pages until I actually added the menu to a page, I got a spinning wheel for ages, I refreshed the page and then got the same error again.

Has anyone seen this before? We really liked megamenu but now it looks like we might have to look for a new navigation bar. Any ideas?

Hi,
I've never heard of anything like that with Mega Menu. The underlying menu code is based on the core "autonav" block (with some adjustments). How many pages are on the site you're referring to? And did you use the keyboard navigation option as well?

Hi,

We did use the keyboard navigation option.

The site has 55 pages currently. It is very strange that it was working fine, the client was adding pages and then this error occurred which seemed to happen just after she had moved the order of the pages around a bit. I don't know whether that was just coincidence.

I don't know what to try next, I was hoping to reinstall megamenu but every time I do, the site goes wrong again and it seems to work fine without it, except for not having a navigation menu.

I think if you try disabling the keyboard navigation it will work ok. The limitation with the keyboard navigation is that there's only 26 letters in the alphabet so if you have over 26 pages, the mega menu will try to assign a unique letter... But there's none left. So it cause an endless loop that would cause an error.

Once you turn that off let me know how that goes.

Hi JB,

Thanks for your reply, since you mentioned the keyboard navigation option, I thought I would try adding mega menu back in without this option selected. The menu came straight in with out the error and since then, I have been able to add 5 more pages without the error occurring. I hope this has been the answer, I will see once the client gets back on and starts creating more pages.

Thanks for you help.

Regards
