Question about ability

Permalink Browser Info Environment
Hello!

I have a client that has an interesting set up and I think this add-on will help accomplish what is needed, but I'd like to clarify a specific before I recommend it as a path.

Some background - The client has a NZ based business that sells tour packages. The site creator used some nifty rewrite rules to automatically clone the site to an Australian domain for visitors from Australia (automatically redirecting AU IPs to the AU site, everybody else goes to NZ).

The solution is great in the sense that the client can create and edit pages in one place and it will be echoed to the AU site without any additional work (There's some config that displays the AU price and a different support/booking phone number, but everything else is the same and it works off the one NZ price).

Where it falls apart is when search bots try to spider the site. I'm assuming that an AU based bot will parse the AU site just fine, but any other bot with a non-AU IP address will land on the AU site and on the first link they follow, will be directed back to the NZ site. Overall, the AU site is lagging behind in performance and the client would like to resolve this.

I'm wondering if this add on will allow the built in aliasing to work with the entire site essentially duplicated under two domains using the add on. The goal would be to only have edits made on the NZ side and then update the alias on the AU side. Would that work? Any other ideas or thoughts?

My other potential solution is to clone the site to a Git Repo and have the client push changes from the NZ site to the repo and have the AU site pull changes automatically.

Thanks for your time.

Hi Brian,

Thanks for your enquiry!

Unfortunately, I don't think this add-on would be much help in your situation. It requires each individual site to have their own pages in the sitemap. And the aliasing functionality in the concrete5 core is very limited. If you alias a page, it will not alias its subpages which would become a problem with your potential use case.

It is possible to do with custom coding but I think in that situation, you can create such custom code also without this add-on with about the same work.
